FAKE NEWS

HOPE ni GUILLER VALENCIA

ALL over the world, sangkaterba ang naglalabasang fake news, false witnesses, false testimonies, and including social discord using internet and social media. Ang bansa natin ang top users of the World Wide Web and various social media platforms according to Meltwater, a global leader on social media intelligence.

Sad to say maraming fake news and lies ang kumakalat here and abroad. Ang mabigat nito ay lies after lies ang mabilis na kumakalat para siraan ang iba’t ibang personalities, institutions, leaders of the governments among others. Exposing the truth is one thing, dapat ‘yan ang kailangan natin ikalat at marinig!

Ito palang paglabas o paghahatid ng fake news ay madaling paraan para kumita ng pera. Ang tawag dito ay trolls. Way back in ’90s, I was just starting writing in community newspaper and having my own radio program, Action Line sa DWAD 1098 khz, lagi kong naririnig sa mga nakakasama kong reporters from different media outlets ang salitang ‘AC-DC ‘yan si ganito’. Ang ibig sabihin pala ay Attack and Collect and Depend and Collect. Sa paraan na ito kumikita nang malaki ang ilang nagpapakilalang nasa media para magkalat ng kasinungalingan at kasiraan against someone or defend even those who were wrong. Sa panahon ngayon marami ang nagkakalat ng kasinungalingan, fake news and wrecking the reputation of others for the sake of money. Easy money nga!

But you know what mga kababayan? Sa Ten Commandments ipinag-utos, “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor” (Exodus 20:12). Isama na natin dito ang liars sa mga hearing in court or in an investigative body and spreading false information and news.

Proverbs 6:16-19: There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.

Use social media in spreading the truth. St. Paul stated, “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap” (Galatians 6:7).
